Elk Rapids Municipal Parking Lot
AS MONDAY TEMP FORECAST IS IN THE 30s, LET‘S DO THIS TUESDAY INSTEAD...
We‘ll start this one a little later to allow the 40 Year Flood waters to recede a bit, and the temps to thaw out...
A basic road ride from downtown Elk Rapids, around the south end of Torch Lake to Alden and back. See the RwGPS trace for a couple deviations from the typical "RAT route". Opportunities for restroom breaks at Torch River and Alden park. A climb on Cherry Ave on the way out, and the classic camel humps on Western on the return leg, but overall should be smooth sailing...
Shoot for a Goldilocks pace - not too slow, not too fast. This is a NO DROP ride, and we‘ll regroup as necessary so nobody gets left behind.
Join the Club at Red Mesa Grill for Happy Hour, 3-5pm. Drinks and snacks are $4 each on their Happy Hour menu. Ride your bike there or drive. Bring bike riding friends to introduce them to the Club!
Sand Lakes Quiet Area Trailhead
New for 2026 is a regular gravel/adventure series, 2-3 times a month on Sunday mornings. Routes will vary from introductory to "spicy", generally running from 15 to 50 miles in length. Terrain will consist of a mix of mostly dirt/gravel, minimal tarmac connecting roads, and occasional sandy sections or singletrack. RwGPS navigation files will be provided for each ride...
For this weeks‘ ride we‘ll start out easy, with a 95% gravel loop from the Sand Lakes Quiet Area parking lot off of Broomhead Rd, down to Ranch Rudolph and back. There‘s lots of parking and a pit toilet at the trailhead. For the gravel curious, or just hoping to shake off some winter cobwebs, this is your ride. On a difficulty scale of 1 to 10, this one is about a 2.
